This Week's Agenda
3/16-3/20
Reading
This week We will continue to sound out words. Students are learning a technique called “tapping it out”. That means they tap their finger with the sound on the word, like c-a-t. This helps with blending sounds together and taking them apart. We will do centers and reading stories.
We will focus on blending and segmenting sounds of words, and digraphs "ch", th", "wh", "sh", and "ck" . We will also discuss long and short vowel words, and nonsense words. Please practice letters and sight words at home and practice writing your child’s name. Also, review all letter formation and sounds of letters.
Practice sight words in their Ziploc bags.
Please complete 45 minutes for iReady Reading requirements.
***To be on track for promotion to First grade your child should be on a D-E Reading Level by May. ***
Here are some simple questions you can ask your child before, during and after reading.
“Can you make a prediction about what you will be reading about?”
"What happened in the story?"
“Where is this story taking place?”
"Who are the main characters?"
"What lesson did the author want to teach you?”
“What was your favorite part of the story?”
“Does this story remind you of anything?”
